Lady Fatima (PBUH) Embodied Perfect Asceticism and Detachment from Worldly Desires

A senior Iranian ethics scholar says Hazrat Fatima (PBUH) stands as the highest model of asceticism, spiritual detachment, and devotion to God, stressing that true renunciation lies not in abandoning the world but in refusing to be enslaved by it.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the weekly ethics session of Lady Fatima Zahra (PBUH) Specialized Seminary in the city of Qorveh, Hojatoleslam Doust Mohammadi, a prominent ethics professor, delivered an analysis of the fourth wisdom from Nahj al-Balagha—the timeless teachings of Imam Ali (PBUH).

The session began with the recitation of Imam Ali’s profound statement:
“Incapacity is a disaster, patience is courage, asceticism is wealth, piety is a paradise, and a contented companion is a blessing.”

“Incapacity Is a Calamity—Far Beyond Physical Weakness”

Elaborating on the first section, Hojatoleslam Doust Mohammadi emphasized that incapacity is not limited to bodily weakness but includes moral and psychological inability, particularly the failure to make firm decisions or to resist wrongful inclinations.

He warned that such inner weakness can lead individuals into moral decline, social vulnerability, and spiritual instability, describing it as a true “calamity” for human beings.

Patience: The Inner Courage and the Greatest Jihad

The ethics scholar then pointed to Imam Ali’s description of patience as a form of courage, explaining that bravery is not confined to the battlefield.

“Patience in obeying God, patience in refraining from sin, and patience in the face of hardships—all of these are manifestations of profound inner courage,”
he said, calling it the “greatest jihad against the self.”

Hazrat Zahra (PBUH): The Supreme Model of Ascetic Wealth

Addressing the section on asceticism, he stated that real wealth lies in freedom from attachment to material possessions. Asceticism, he noted, means possessing the world without allowing the world to possess the heart.

“Hazrat Zahra (PBUH) was the perfect embodiment of this truth,”
he said, describing the noble daughter of the Prophet (PBUH) as the highest example of spiritual detachment and selfless generosity in the path of God.

Piety: A Shield Against Temptation

He further described piety (taqwa) as a protective armor against sin, emphasizing that conscious God-wariness guards believers from “satanic temptations, moral slips, and spiritual harm,” serving as a shield that preserves human dignity.

Call for Strengthening Religious Awareness

In concluding remarks, Hojatoleslam Mohammadi highlighted the critical role of scholars in expanding religious knowledge, countering misconceptions, and responding to modern-day doubts.

He urged that enthusiasm for religious ceremonies must be matched with a commitment to deep understanding, awareness, and defense of authentic Islamic teachings, especially in the face of rising ideological challenges.
